UITNODIGING - INVITATION - EINLADUNG - VERNISSAGE

Christy Keeney now lives and works in Ireland.

His sculpted slab built heads and figures demonstrate a wonderful sense of draughtmanship as details are drawn into the wet clay surfaces. Christy sees his work as 3D paintings. The form is built up and sketched till almost flat, like a canvas, ready to take the drawing which will outline the head or portrait. These flat heads are a representation of everyday people of no fixed abode. The figures usually make an attempt to express human spirit in all its may forms. He likes to work with the clay blindly letting the moment dictate progress. When he sees the form develop to some conclusion, he will then add the features.

Niek Hoogland (NL) is potter, living and working in Tegelen. Ever since the time of the Romans potters in Tegelen have worked with the local clay, coming from the river Maas, producing rooftiles, bricks and dinnerware.

Nowadays Niek works with red clay from the Westerwald. He is inspired by the slipware tradition of his region, the free way in which the slip-ware potters worked with their clay and decoration. Niek decorates his work when bonedry, with areas of colour and layering with a variety of slip-trailed and brush-painted lines. The kiln for biscuit firing is heated to 900C. After glazing the final firing at 1100C. gives the work its strong colours, shining surface and hardness. In this exhibition you will only find the sculptural work with themes as "Adam en Eve", "Life Trees" en "Toys".
