CERAMIC OBJECTS OF ALEXANDER LVOVICH

A special exhibition because it is showing the work of an artist from another tradition and culture. Also special because the work is made in special circumstances.

Alexander Lvovich was born in the Ukraïne and is now resident of Kazachstan. It is very difficult to transport ceramics from Kazachstan to the west. For that reason Alexander came one month ahead to Nijmegen to work in Toon Thijs' s studio.

Before and during the working process there was communication between the maker and the gallery-keeper about the collection to exhibit.

A fascinating experience for both of them, resulting in a special exhibition!

Most of the pieces are sculptural objects. Alexander builds them up with small slabs of clay, covering them with reliëf and texture and colouring with oxides. They look like roofs with slates and remind of Asian tents of nomads, called "yurt" .
