Christy Keeney (Irl) sees his work as 3-D paintings based on the human or animal figure. The forms are built up with slabs and sketched till almost flat, like a canvas ready to take the drawing which will outline the head, portrait or figure. They are made from a mixture of Flag Clay and St. Thomas before being coated with white ivory earthenware slip. Coloured stains are painted on the dry clay and, after bisquit firing, oxides are rubbed into the masked off piece to reveal the drawing. |
